THE CITY OF HUB

Hub is the oldest city in the Mirror Realms. Established by Ao (referred to as the First One by the celestial Overseers) millennia ago as a prison to hold those from Toril who challenged Ao's divinity.

The Overseers
Hub continues to be run by the Overseers, celestial outsiders who were the first wardens of the planar prison. Their duties are now to keep Hub free of conflict between the three nations that claim rule of the current lands of the plane.

The Planar Prison
The prison has been almost entirely shutdown, although many ruins lie beneath the city sewers. The prison was huge, spanning out across the plane, and ruins are intertwined with the plane's Underdark and the ruins of the various civilizations that have come and gone over the ages.

Hub is still the key to accessing and unlocking active parts of the planar prison, currently split between the three lands, each holding an ancient dragon that dared to challenge Ao. The Overseers continue to act as wardens for those still imprisoned.

The Grand Council
With the rise of Sylvania, successfully ending an Age of War between Tyrfane and Drakenreich, the Overseers have allowed Hub to now take on an additional role, hosting a Grand Council of the three largest nations. Each nation has one seat in the council, although the Drow of the Underdark are negotiating with the Overseers for an additional seat to represent them. The Dwarf Kingdoms have also been negotiating for a seat, wanting more independence from Sylvania that they believe will come with it.

Exodites
When the Overseers see a need for change, they implore Ao to begin bringing agents of change to the plane. This call has been answered and such agents now arrive in Hub daily.

There has never been a greater need for the change that exodites can bring, for many reasons, including:
  • A necromantic plague sweeping Drakenreich.
  • Increased tensions between the Dwarf Kingdoms and Sylvania.
  • Sylvania's aggressive encroachment on neighbouring borders (under the auspice of 'unifying the natural lands and ending the tyranny of warrior gods').
  • Increases in Tyrfane and Drakenreich raids on each other (crossing through Sylvania with no concern for borders themselves).
  • Drow factions emerging from the Underdark.
  • Recent attempts by various factions to free the remaining planar prisoners.
How does my character know this stuff?
When your character is drawn to the Mirror Realms, this basic knowledge is implanted into their brain. Ao is thoughtful, even if they have just kidnapped you for their own purposes, and does not want every Exodite arriving in the Mirror Realms without some idea of what has just happened. Ao is also quite aware that they have confirmed their existence and hopes that you are strong enough to deal with this revelation.

What you do next is entirely up to you.

City Districts
Each nation maintains an embassy in Hub's central Council District and is responsible for the policing and security of a district in the city allocated to them, adjacent to the Council District. Both Tyrfane's (East) and Drakenreich's (West) districts have access to the Docks District to the North, which is divided into three zones of control. The central zone of the docks is policed by Sylvania but the Overseers also have a controlling presence in this zone.
